A
beer hunt with Montana High Country costs $2100. The license
price to hunt bear is $350. We hunt Black Bear in the Kootenai
National Forest, located in northwest Montana. Black Bear have
beautiful coats and may be found in a variety of colors such
as blonde, cinnamon, brown, and black. Generally spring bear
is a very high success rate hunt.
For $2100 you get a 2 hunter to 1 guide hunting ratio. We provide
transportation to and from the airport, all meals, stay at the
lodge, and professional guide service including filed care.
We conduct our spring bear hunt for three weeks in early May.
We hunt out of a modern cabin where our guests sleep in beds
with sheets, enjoy home cooked meals, and have most other modern
conveniences including wireless DSL and satellite TV.
We leave the lodge in 4x4 vehicles and travel to different hunting
areas. Travel time to hunt areas is usually 15 min. to 1 hr.
Our hunting methodology involves a combination of spot and stalk
along with walking roads and trails. Stalks on bears are usually
not long in distance but can be in very steep and somewhat cliffy
areas.
We have a good population of bears in our area. We also have
quite a few off color bears. We have taken everything from blonde
to black. Our mature bears run from 6'-6'06" and weigh
in around 300-325 lbs. In the Spring and 400-425 lbs. in the
Fall.
In the Fall bear hunts we mostly do spot + stalk hunting in
the highest country. We hunt high mountain huckleberry patches
in both natural basin and clear cuts. The hunt is very scenic
and involves slightly longer drives. We usually hear bugling
bulls as we glass for bears, and often spot other species as
well. The Fall bear hunt is Sept. 15-20.
